Informing hydrogeological models with remotely sensed evapotranspiration

چکیده

Remotely sensed evapotranspiration (ET) rates can provide an additional constraint on the calibration of groundwater models beyond typically-used water table (WT) level observations. The value this constraint, measured in terms reductions model error, however, is expected to vary with method by which it imposed and how closely ET flux dependant levels. To investigate variability, four silvicultural sites different access were modeled under three model-data configurations. A benchmark that used only WT levels for was compared two alternatives: one satellite remotely from MODIS-CMRSET also included calibration, data assimilated, through Ensemble Kalman Filter, into model. Large error outputs achieved when CMRSET calibrate Assimilation further improved performance statistics where < 6.5 m deep. It advantageous use spatially distributed actual available. In situations vegetation has direct groundwater, assimilation observations likely improve performance.

Remotely Sensed Evapotranspiration Data Assimilation for Crop Growth Modeling

The agricultural sector will require more water in the near future to provide more food, fibre and fuels (Molden et al., 2007). As population increases and development calls for increased demand of food, a change in diet due to increased prosperity, and a recent focus on biofuels. This population growth coupled with industrialization and urbanization will result in an increasing demand for wate...

Structural Interpretation of Remotely Sensed Data Sets, Its Hydrogeological Implication over Ile-ife and Environs

Abstract: Lineaments are mapable linear surface features, which presumably reflect subsurface phenomena. The study demonstrates the use of ALOS imagery for lineament mapping for geological application. The image was enhanced and used for lineaments extraction through on-screen digitising. The extracted lineaments were evaluated against the published geological map for the study area using GIS o...

Regional Estimation of Remotely Sensed Evapotranspiration Using the Surface Energy Balance-Advection (SEB-A) Method

Evapotranspiration (ET) is an essential part of the hydrological cycle and accurately estimating it plays a crucial role in water resource management. Surface energy balance (SEB) models are widely used to estimate regional ET with remote sensing. The presence of horizontal advection, however, perturbs the surface energy balance system and contributes to the uncertainty of energy influxes. Thus...

Using remotely sensed solar radiation data for reference evapotranspiration estimation at a daily time step

16 Solar radiation is an important climatic variable for assessing reference evapotranspiration 17 (E0), but it is seldom available in weather station records. Meteosat satellite images processed 18 with the Heliosat-2 method provide the HelioClim-1 database, which displays spatialized 19 solar radiation data at a daily time step for Europe and Africa. The aim of the present work 20 was to inve...

Calibrating a Basin-scale Groundwater Model to Remotely Sensed Estimates of Groundwater Evapotranspiration

Remotely sensed vegetation indices correspond to canopy vigor and cover and have been successfully used to estimate groundwater evapotranspiration (ETg) over large spatial and temporal scales. However, these data do not provide information on depth to groundwater (dtgw) necessary for groundwater models (GWM) to calculate ETg. An iterative approach is provided that calibrates GWM to ETg derived ...
